Who is Mello?

The event mascot for the Cricket World Cup of 2007 is a teenage character called Mello who embodies the carefree lifestyle of the region. The mascot resembles an orange raccoon-like creature and is shown wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt over a white vest and blue canvas shoes. Mello stands with crossed legs, and tosses a white ball in the air, while leaning on a cricket bat. The first mascot of a Cricket World Cup was ‘Dazzler’ the zebra who made his appearance in the World Cup in South Africa in 2003.

When was the first permanent trophy for the World Cup winners introduced?

The ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy is presented to the winners of the World Cup finals. The current trophy was created for the 1999 championships, and was the first permanent prize in the tournament’s history. Prior to this, different trophies wee made for each World Cup. The current trophy is made from silver and gold, and features a golden globe held up by three silver columns. The columns, shaped as stumps, and bails, represent the three fundamental aspects of cricket – batting, bowling and fielding. The globe characterizes a cricket ball. It stands 60 cms high, and weighs approximately 11 kilos. The names of the trophy, with space for a total of twenty inscriptions. The ICC keeps the original trophy. A replica, which differs only in the inscriptions, is awarded as a permanent memento to the winning team
